How To Help Those Affected by I-75 Accident On Thursday, January 3, 2019

On Thursday, January 3, 2019 a vehicle crash occurred on Interstate 75 at mile marker 394, south of Alachua at about 3:40 pm. A tractor-trailer and a car collided in a northbound lane and careered through a guardrail into southbound traffic, striking a van, another car and another tractor-trailer. The van had been carrying nine children and three adults Avoyelles House of Mercy church in Marksville, La heading to Walt Disney World.  The accident caused around 50 gallons of diesel fuel to spill and caught fire, killing five of the children as well as the drivers of the semi tracks. On Friday, Florida Highway Patrol released the names of the five children and two adults who died in the accident. The children were identified as Cierra Bordelan, 9; Joel Cloud, 14; Brieana Descant, 10; Cara Descant, 13; and Jeremiah Warren, 9. The two semi-truck drivers were identified as 49-year-old Douglas Bolkema and 59-year-old Steve Holland. Seven more victims remain hospitalized.
