Cat owners know the struggle, you spend hundreds of dollars on cat toys, towers and scratchers only to have your cat fall in love with the box the toys were shipped in.  But why is it cats love bags and boxes?  Researchers say the explanation is actually quite simple, it makes them feel safe. Cats like to squeeze into small spaces as a security move so they can relax and feel safe. Wide open spaces make the animals feel vulnerable and exposed. In some experiments, cats have even sat inside a taped off square in an empty room as they would a three-dimensional box. So if you or someone you know is adopting a cat you may want to leave some boxes around for your new friend.
