You and your pillow have been through some good and bad times?  From propping up your head to watch TV to those sleepless nights, if your pillow could talk there would be a lot to say.  But like all bedding items, there is a timeline of when you should be replacing your pillows. Experts say you should be replacing your inexpensive polyester pillow as often as once every six months, but if you have a higher-quality pillow, such as one with memory foam, or one with the structural integrity to keep its shape for a long time, then these pillows might last anywhere from 18 to 36 months. Since your head is pressing against this pillow for anywhere from six to 10 hours a day, the structure of the pillow will begin to break down over time. Even through you wash your pillow cases once a week, it is inevitable that dead skin cells and body oils seep into your fluffy friend which can gross you out.  However you can get some extra life beyond six months. By washing your pillow every six months and add a protectant case in between the pillow and pillowcase, you can extend its life upwards of two years. Check your pillow’s label for laundry instructions before you toss it in your washing machine and never put a memory foam pillow in the wash.
