With the college football season beginning in less than 2 weeks, Public Safety Officials with the City of Gainesville and University of Florida have decided to close 5 blocks of West University Avenue during Florida Gator home games.  The measure is aimed at safety of the thousands of pedestrians and tailgaters in the wake of Nice tragedy earlier this year.  The section of West University, between 17th Street and 22nd Street will close three hours before kickoff and remain closed until two hours after the game. The detours will rely on NW 5th and 8th Avenues as Gainesville Police recommend staying away from the area unless you are attending the game. The Gators first three games are at home with the season kickoff a week from Saturday, on September 3rd at 7:30pm.
