Trendy Diets Leaving Many People Vitamin Deficient

Trendy diets that generally include excluding certain foods are popular thanks to social media but health experts say it is causing dieters to fall short of essential vitamins and minerals, which can lead to fatigue, weakened immune systems, broken bones, muscle problems and infertility. Researchers looked at data from over 3,000 adults and found the average man is falling short on five out of eight key minerals and women are falling short in 8. Men were found to be deficient in potassium, selenium, magnesium, copper and zinc. Women are just getting 68% of the recommended intake for iron, 69% for potassium, 66% of selenium, 80% for copper and magnesium, 89% for iodine and 97% for calcium. Since a balanced diet provides sufficient vitamins and minerals, fad diet excluding certain foods are the culprit in vitamin and mineral deficits. It is always best to seek out advice from your doctor or dietician on the best course of reducing calories without reducing vital foods for a healthy life.
