Many dogs and cats have a taste for skin creams and lotions and for the most part when they lick them off your skin, it is harmless.  However one skin cream used to treat and prevent skin cancer has killed 5 dogs after they ingested it.  The Food and Drug Administration issued a warning for the prescription creme, fluorouracil (sold as Carac, Efudex, and Fluoroplex), after receiving reports of 5 different cases in which dogs licked, ate or punctured the tube of creme and became violently ill, suffered seizures and had to be euthanized.  Although no cat deaths were reported the warning includes keeping all pets away from the creme.
