Planning Too Much Takes The Fun Out Of The Holidays

Christmas is coming and you may find yourself in charge in planning.  Well, let's be honest, it’s all up to you!  But as much as you may want to map everything out from meals to shopping excursions, you may want to step back from planning the fun out of it!  Researchers looked at 13 studies and found that the simple act of scheduling makes otherwise fun tasks feel more like work and decreases how much we enjoy them. So why does scheduling make fun things seem like work? It's because scheduling, at its core, is about structuring time. Strict scheduling is therefore at odds with how people think about leisure and relaxation, which are associated with unconstrained freedom, and how people think about work, which is associated with many specific deadlines and time constraints. So have a plan but don't go Clark W. Griswold in planning down to the minutes.  Remember what happened when he did that going to Wally World!
