People Get Grumpier As Temperatures Rise

June 28, 2017

From the "no kidding" file, science confirms that summer heat makes us grumpy.  Researchers from Northwest University concluded that as the temperature rises, people become crankier, less cooperative, and less likely to help others. in one experiment where data was collected from mall employees in the midst of a heatwave.  It found that workers were 59% less likely to ask customers if they needed help, make suggestions, volunteer assistance, or show signs of active listening. Another experiment had volunteers answer survey questions, with half in a room with a temperature at 72 and another at 80.  Those in the hotter room answered far fewer survey questions than those sitting comfortably in air conditioning.  Further data supports the idea of keeping your workplace (and we assume your home for the sanity of your family) at a safe and comfortable temperature.
