Perhaps a little DIY project this weekend? Nothing jazzes up a room better than a fresh coat of paint.  However a seemingly easy DIY project can be disastrous, so here are some professional paint tips. 60% to 70% of painting is prep. Make sure your drop cloths are in place and your countertops and cabinets are taped off beforehand. As simple as it may seem, make sure you stir your paint before applying. Paint begins to separate within an hour or two after mixing, so give it a good stir. Cut in and then roll.  This means to use a paintbrush first by painting the corners and borders first and outwards towards the center, then use a paint roller.  Only work on six to eight feet sections at a time.  This allows you to control the thickness of the paint. Anything larger you run the risk of missing a spot or applying the paint too thick or thin. Speaking of the brush and rollers, don't cheap out on them. A Good roller will cost you $4-$6 with quality brushes $15-$20.  That also goes for the paint.  Cheaper paint means more coats and ore time.
