Owning A Dog May Be The Key To Living Longer

November 20, 2017

A pet can add so much joy to your life and owning a dog, especially if you are single, may actually help you live longer!  The study tracked 3.4 million single Swedes in middle age for 12 years and what they found is that dog owners who lived alone were 11% less likely to die of heart disease and a third less likely to die from any cause, compared with those who lived alone and didn't have a dog. The study couldn't prove cause-and-effect but they believe that owning a dog means you're going to be more physically active in taking care, walking and playing with them.  Another idea is an overall better mental well-being as people interact with dogs (and pets in general). The study was published in the journal Scientific Reports.
