Only in Florida: Thief Steals TV From Store Filled With Sheriff Duputies

December 12, 2016

Not only is a busiest shopping season of the year, it's the biggest season of the year for thieves, and wouldn't you know it, James Walsh of Port St. Lucie, was heading to the local Walmart to continue to stuff his stockings with free electronics.  Earlier last week he was able to walk out of the store with a TV without being caught.  So why not give it another try?  And go for the big TV, a 58-inch model.  According to police reports, Walsh allegedly strolled around the store with the huge TV box in his shopping cart with a phone up to his ear waiting for his chance to make his exit.  Of course store security was watching and when he left the store, security attempted to stop him.  Walsh was able to slip past security and back into the store and went out the other set of exit doors.  By this time, the incident was able to catch many of the deputies with the St. Lucie County Sheriff's Office were at the store for a shop-with-a-cop event. Within no time, Walsh was in custody in no time. Walsh was charged with grand theft, resisting merchant, and resisting officer without violence.
