Office Gossip May Be Good, At Least In One Area

Gossip around the office has been deemed counter-productive, malicious and inappropriate by many business.  However there may be a light level of gossip that is good for morale, says one study. Of course a research study was performed on about 200 workers, which is a small sample, but what it found is gossip about worker performance can promote honest behavior and a better work ethic. Nearly every office contains over and under achievers. The researchers also found that some of the people who are excluded because of their reputation for slacking off will change their behavior and start cooperating. Those who still refuse to contribute to the team effort develop a worse reputation around the office.
