Online dating is fun, but it can be terrifying. We've all experienced the feeling of meeting someone for the first time and wondering WHY they've directed you to a random dingy bar (cue texts to all your friends with the address and name of said date). Worryingly, crime against those on dating apps is on the rise as the apps increase in popularity. But one dating app is doing what most others don't and helping women- and men- to feel safer when they meet someone new, by conducting a background check on everyone who signs up. Gatsby, a new swiping-based mobile dating app, uses profile information to search publicly available databases, which includes criminal records. The aim is to make you feel safer online, and monthly rescans ensure that no-one slips through the net.
