Is This The KFC Secret Recipe?

August 22, 2016

Like the Coca-Cola recipe, KFC's secret blend of herbs and spices are kept under lock and key and is considered one of America’s most valuable trade secrets. It's so secret that two different companies make parts of the spice blend for the restaurants so that no one had the full recipe. But is the secret now out?  A handwritten recipe was recently discovered tucked inside a scrapbook that once belonged to Claudia Sanders, the wife of Colonel Harland David Sanders.  The scrapbook has been passed down to various family members after the death of Claudia Sanders in 1997 and is now in the possession of her nephew, Joe Ledington, who discovered the recipe tucked inside an envelope.  However the parent company of KFC, Yum!, says although they think it would make some tasty fried chicken, the concoction is not the infamous recipe.  KFC says many people have attempted to crack the recipe code without success. However it could be the real thing.  Before KFC was a worldwide brand, Colonel Sanders had his recipe written above the doorway of the gas station diner where he developed the mix for anyone to see, write and make themselves. You be the judge, here is the recipe:

  • 2 cups of flour
  • 2/3 tablespoons of salt
  • 1/2 tablespoon of thyme
  • 1/2 tablespoon of basil
  • 1/3 tablespoon of oregano
  • 1 tablespoon of celery salt
  • 1 tablespoon of black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon of dried mustard
  • 4 tablespoons of paprika
  • 2 tablespoons of garlic salt
  • 1 tablespoon of ground ginger
  • 3 tablespoons of white pepper
