Vacations are so wonderful!  You plan them months in advance and can't contain your excitement as you venture off for a few days of rest and relaxation.  But all things must come to an end. 40% of Americans say the benefits of vacation only last a few days with 24% saying that the positive effects of vacation time disappear immediately after they return to work! Even 21% of those surveyed say they feel stressed or tense while on vacation, and 28% said they end up working more on vacation than they planned to. The biggest buzz kill of the vacation is returning to a heavier-than-usual workload. So let your much-enjoyed vacation be tainted with depression of being back with these tips on returning to work after vacation. Make sure you are planning ahead. Set an out-of-office email auto-reply before you go on vacation, stating that you’re away and will not be responding to emails or phone calls.  Make sure you have a plan for someone in your office to handle any issues that need immediate attention.  Make sure you schedule a catch-up day. The day after you get back from vacation, try to block out a day on your calendar to spend at home to catch up on emails and anything else you missed. This should help you from feeling overwhelmed. With 71% of employers saying they encourage employees to take time off and 52% of employees saying they have unused vacation time, make sure you are taking time off for yourself.  Just a few days off, even if you have no plans, can re-energize you and lead to a less stressed life!
