Baking soda could be considered the Macgyver of everyday life. From removing stains on countertops to whitening your teeth to baking cakes.  But baking soda is also used in an array of medical practices from chemotherapy to open heatr surgery and reverse poisionings.  Although t seem splentyful in your grocery store shelves, it is running dangerously low in hospitals. The nations two suppliers of medical grade sodium bicarbonate (Baking Soda) say that a syupplier for Pfizer had delivery problems, which snowballed into hospitals stockpiling the medication as manufacturers warn it could be until August before supplies are back to normal. Experts say blame the shortages on a combination of factors msuch as aging facilities, raw ingredient suppliers and what many say the generic drug market, which companies see little profit in an ever-consoldating pharaceutical industry. Currently 50 drugs listed in short supply. Teh short supply is causing many hospitals to postpone surgeries and chemotherapy treatments, however imports of medical-grade sodium bicarbonate may alieve supply problems. The FDA is working to find solutuions.
