Healthiest Time To Eat Halloween Candy

Yes, it is an oxymoron to call Halloween candy healthy but a registered dietitian says the healthiest time to eat Halloween candy is immediately after a workout! Before you start unwrapping fun sized candies from the kids candy bag know it's only a couple of pieces and it should be part of a post-workout protein shake. After a workout, your cells are looking to replenish themselves. Physical activity burns through glycogen, a stored form of glucose, and you can quickly replace that by having more of a fast-absorbing sugar found in candy.  You never want to eat candy by itself. Eating more substantial food before candy helps slow the absorption of sugar into your bloodstream, which in turn helps protect levels of blood-sugar-regulating insulin from spiking and then crashing.
