Gainesville Regional Airport Disaster Drill Set For Tuesday, October 18, 2016

October 18, 2016

If you hear police, fire and paramedic sirens racing out to the Gainesville Regional Airport along with plumes of smoke and perhaps a call from a friend of loved one at the airport saying there has been an aircraft crash.  Remain calm and know it is part of a full-scale emergency exercise. The Federal Aviation Administration requires that all air carrier airport operators hold a full-scale exercise at least once every three years and today is the day for Gainesville Regional Airport.  Volunteers were be dressed up like victims, police and fire rescue will be dispatched and even some smoke will be added to make the drill as realistic as possible from Waldo Road and NE 39th Avenue.  The drill is not expected to impact commercial or passenger flights and the airport will remain open during the exercise scheduled between 10am and 12:30pm.
