Flashing Has Gone Digital And How To Protect Yourself From It

August 15, 2017

iPhone users are the latest victim of an old and creepy trend of flashers.  While we all have images of a trench-coat wearing naked man running around a shopping mall, you'd never think your phone would be the medium for this creepy practice. Cyber-flashing involves the AirDrop feature of your phone that allows you to transfer large files, such as videos and pictures, between Apple devices without using email, FTP or cloud services.  While this easy feature is convenient, it means anyone with AirDrop can send files wither you like it or not.  However you can make sure you are not a victim of cyber-flashing.  Flip your thumb from the bottom of the screen to bring up the Control Center.  You will see AirDrop next to AirPlay Mirroring. Touch AirDrop for a menu of who can connect to your phone with AirDrop. Either set your AirDrop settings to "contacts only", so that only those in your contact list have access or just turn it off.
