Perhaps the key to raising happy children isn't buying them the latest toys, video games and clothes. Experts say you should be spending your money on experiences, such as trips instead of toys. A new study found that experiences together with your children go beyond the here and now too.  Experimental gifts, like outings and trips, are more likely to build long-lasting memories for kids because of the emotional connection that accompanies doing something rather than getting something. So a trip to the spa with mom or a concert with dad is more intensely emotional than a material possession of a toy or video game. They build an emotional foundation that kids can turn to as they get older when they're sad, or stressed, anxious or worried. And as for those experiences, the study didn't find any difference between a day at the park and a day in Hawaii.  Your time and what you do together is the most precious gift you can give your child.
