Ever Wonder Why The Pool Has That Unique Smell?

August 18, 2016

Memories of cooling off in a pool during a hot summer day, you mind wonders back to the sights, sounds and smells of years past.  Well that pool smell that brings back so many memories?  Well, prepare to be horrified. That smell is actually the mixing of disinfection byproducts or DBPs, created when sweat, dirt, and lotions and pee mix with cleaning chemicals. Those DBPs are also what make your eyes turn red and have been linked to respiratory issues like asthma. Experts say you can reduce the sludge associated in swimming pools by showering before you go into the water and when it's time to go potty, get out and use the toilet.
