Clean Your House By Using Your Personality Type To Your Advantage

May 19, 2017

Housecleaning isn't a chore many enjoy doing but perhaps you'd enjoy organizing and keeping the house tidy if you cleaned based on your personality. Katie and Kelly McMenamin have run a professional cleaning business in NYC called Pixies Did It [and just published a book on the subject].  For 30 years, the sisters have learned of four distinctive traits in people who clean. Classic, Fun, Organic and Smart. Knowing what your personality type is important as you can use your strengths to your advantage. The classic clean is the typical type-A person who is very structured when it comes to clutter but are the one who tend to hand on to clothes “just in case”.  For instance, your closet is cluttered with clothes and shoes, rather than organizing, get rid of the one's you don't wear, as hard as it sounds. Use those organization skills to make an inventory of available storage space and use that space to de-clutter. For the fun cleaner, organize with fun themes, such as color-coordinate your closet or arrange your pantry into a work of art. Turn decluttering your bathroom into a game by vowing to get rid of one item every day for 30 days.  Organic people don't mind clutter as much but there is a time to clean up and for them it that's very hard.  However if you set up annual clean dates and stick to them so you can overcome your objections. Smart use logic to place keys, wallets, food and clothes in strategic locations.  However that can result in clutter. So use your smarts to work out an efficient way to keep your home neat and tidy.
