Chili and Ginger Combine To Battle Cancer

September 9, 2016

The war against cancer is always looking for new ways to battle the enemy, including food.  Previous studies have suggested that capsaicin, the chemical that gives chilies their heat factor, can promote tumor growth in certain cancers. However, according to the new research, capsaicin can be turned into a cancer-fighting property when combined with ginger's pungent compound 6-gingergol. Research at the American Chemical Society, found that when 6-gingergol binds to capsaicin it forms a super-strong compound that starves key tumor-growing receptors in lung cancer in lab tests.  The finding are encouraging and could lead to new treatments for some cancers.
