People aren't the only ones dealing with the flu.  A highly contagious dog flu has now spread to 46 states and could lead to infection and, in some cases, even death. Unlike influenza that impacts humans, canine influenza can spread at any time during the year and passes by direct contact with other dogs, nasal secretions and contaminated items. Symptoms can include coughing, sneezing, lethargy, decreased appetite and difficulty breathing. The good news is a simple blood test can detected the virus within a week.  There is also a canine flu vaccine available.  In any case, if you suspect your dog has the flu, immediately take them to see the vet.
