It's the main event, Butter Battle 2017!  Seriously, when it comes to a stick of butter, is it better stored in the refrigerator, hard and unspreadable?  Or soft on the countertop where left out food spoils? Well the correct answer is much like life, there is a little bit of truth to back both sides.  Because butter is mostly fat, it can withstand room temperature for much longer periods than other foods.  Salted butter is even less prone to bacterial growth than unsalted butter because of its sodium content, so the shelf life of the two types of butter is slightly different. In short, salted butter should last for two weeks and unsalted butter should always be kept in the fridge.
