The benefits of fresh foods in our diet are countless.  The next time your kids are wanting a snack consider giving them a handful of blueberries.  A recent study is linking blueberries with a faster reaction time of almost 10%, thanks to the antioxidants known as flavonoids, which are found not only in fruits like blueberries, bananas, cherries, strawberries, plums and raspberries, but in tea and dark chocolate.  It is thought that flavonoids increase communication between nerve cells and boost brain cell regeneration. The study found that of the 21 children tested on cognitive ability, those who consumed the blue fruit had a 9% faster response time than those who didn't eat them. The findings were published in the journal Food & Function.
