Dentists recommend we brush out teeth twice a day and for the majority of Americans that means once as you wake up and again before bed.  But a dental professional is giving us more specific times as it has to do more with when you eat as to when you sleep.  The best time to brush your teeth is 30 minutes before breakfast, and 30 minutes after dinner. Brushing your teeth straight after eating is essentially like scrubbing a cleaning detergent on your enamel which is why you should brush your teeth before breakfast. Acids from coffee, cereal, eggs and such demineralize your enamel and can wear it down leaving your teeth vulnerable to tooth decay and discolored teeth. Those food acids are the reason you should brush 30 minutes after dinner, since your next meal is 8 hours away and you need to move those acids off your teeth.  Gum disease takes at least 24 hours to develop, which is why you should never go more than 24 hours without brushing your teeth and flossing them too.
