Are you walking enough?

January 23, 2018

The average person walks 20% less often than people 10 years ago. You could definitely argue that life has gotten more convenient over the last decade, but at what cost? The British National Travel Survey recently found people walked fewer than four times per week in 2015, when they walked nearly five times a week in 2005. The survey has been conducted regularly since 1994 and finds the number of short walks (less than a mile) people take have been falling steadily since 1994. The drop coincides with a dramatic surge in online shopping and more recently an uptick in local delivery services for take out food. Another change: there's been an increase in cycling over the same period.
