Stress and work is like peas and carrots or peanut butter and jelly.  The two go hand in hand and while a little stress is healthy it can be overwhelming at times. Unfortunately we can't just play hooky from work and head to the spa for some relaxation but there are some ways to de-stress at your desk that take a little as five minutes. Meditation has been used for centuries to find inner peace and while it may take some time for you develop your own meditation routine. Try downloading a guided mediation app like Calm or Headspace, which can offer tips on tactics like breathing exercises and body scans and give you something to focus on. Give yourself a mini hand massage. Hands carry a lot of tension, so by targeting key pressure points and relaxing this part of your body, you will feel an overall difference. First apply lotion. Pinch the tip of each finger for two to three seconds. Do this from the front and back of the finger, and also from each side. Then, hold one hand with the other, putting your thumb in the center of the palm of the opposite hand. Rub in small circles, starting in the middle and moving outward. Grab some cold water. Typically when we're stressed, anxious, angry, or otherwise worked up, our body temperature rises. You can lower it quickly by focusing on certain areas in particular. Head to the bathroom for a quick five-minute break and run some cold water on your wrists and dab it behind your earlobes. Cooling your wrists, in particular, can cool off your arms fast, and that cooled-off blood will circulate to the rest of the body. Stop and smell the citrus. Even if you don't like the taste of orange, you can cut one open and smell it for some instant relief. Not only can citrus help calm stress and anxiety, it can also lessen nausea.
