Reading a bedtime story is a time honored tradition that you can now take to the next level thanks to technology.  Download the free app called Novel Effect to your iPhone or iPad and it uses voice recognition technology to add sound effects, music and character voices as you read the story!  Simply grab a book, select the book you are reading in the app itself and place your device down. As you read the story, your device's microphone listens for key words and adds sound effects at the perfect moment, so you can go at your own pace. There’s a well-timed “ba-dum-bump-chhhh” in The Book with No Pictures, the hum of machine engines in Goodnight, Goodnight, Construction Site, and lively underwater effects in The Pout-Pout Fish. You can even skip around, if needed, and the sound effects follow you all the way to the end.  Novel Effect works similarly with eBooks too.  The free app is for Apple only with an Amazon Alexa skill in the works.
