Step Up Your Mulled Wine Game With An Instant Pot

December 11, 2018

It is safe to say we love our Instant pot!  Not only can it make incredible meals but apparently you can make wine with it. And just in time for your Christmas party, you can make Mulled Wine in your Instant Pot too! While mulled wine is super easy to make as you mix warmed red wine with spices, the pressure cooker feature of the Instant Pot infuses the wine with those spices; taking your mulled wine game to the next level. A word of warning, placing liquor in your Instant Pot will cause the alcohol to catch fire, so stick with wine as the alcohol content is low enough not to cause problems. To make it yourself, you will need, apple juice, orange zest, cinnamon sticks, cloves, honey and a 750-milliliter bottle of red wine (the cheap stuff is fine. Add the wine, orange zest, clove and apple juice to the Instant Pot. Seal it and press the “Manual” or “Pressure Cook” button and, using the “+” and “-” buttons, set the time to zero minutes. Once the cooking time is elapsed, press “Cancel” and let the pressure release naturally for 10 minutes, then release any remaining pressure manually. Press the “Keep Warm” button—which is also the “Cancel” button. Stir in the cinnamon sticks and honey, and serve to friends in pretty mugs, garnishing with strips of citrus zest, or freshly grated nutmeg. Remember to follow the safety instructions included with your Instant Pot.

  • 1 750-milliliter bottle or red wine (I like a cheapish blend because why heat and flavor an expensive bottle of wine?)
  • 2 cups of apple juice
  • 1 orange, zest removed and juiced
  • 2 cinnamon sticks
  • 4 cloves
  • 1 star anise pod
  • 1 green cardamom pod, lightly crushed
  • 1 cup Cardamaro
  • 2 tablespoons honey
