We've become more conscious of what we're putting on our face and into our bodies in recent years, but many of us still apply makeup products that are full of ingredients that can pose serious health risks. Recent testing of 467 beauty products , 77% of eyeliners, 72% of beauty blenders, 69% of mascaras, 56% of lipsticks and 55% of lip glosses all contained staphylococcus bacteria, a type of germ that can cause deadly infections. But it's not just bacteria that is lurking in makeup, there can also be toxic chemicals. So what are the ingredients you should be watching out for? Top of the list is a chemical you might have heard of are Parabens, which is the collective name for various distinct synthetically-produced preservatives and are found in water-based products, such as shampoos, conditioners, shower gels, facial cleansers and scrubs. Some studies have linked Parabens with cancer and reproductive toxicity. Phenoxyethanol can be found in a vast amount of beauty products, which is a preservative widely used in cosmetics to prevent the growth of bacteria. For many people, it can cause an allergic reaction. Methylisothiazolinone (MI) is a preservative used in baby wipes and other personal products, which is currently causing an appreciable number of cases of allergic contact dermatitis, an itchy skin rash.  So besides replacing your makeup on a regular basis (the expiration dates on makeup are usually listed in months and have the letter "M" in the number), avoid makeup products with these chemicals.
