We are coming into the season where you find yourself over-committing to parties and get-togethers. The added weight on your shoulders can fuel stress and anxiety, which is why you need to cancel some of them. So here are some great excuses to get out of scheduled plans with friends, family or co-workers. You can blame your hectic schedule.  Things pop up all the time and everyone knows how schedules can conflict, so don't be afraid to simply state that you forgot about a previous obligation. You can say you are feeling "off" too. A comment of how you are not feeling the best and even think you may be catching a cold or flu works. You can even be more specific and say it's in your stomach! Blame the kids! They always need a nap or have a school project due the next day (which you just found out about). Keep it a mystery. Go with the vague yet concerning such as, ‘Hey, sorry, something urgent came up last-minute, can we try to reschedule?” he only concern is that they might push further; if you’re in this situation, just keep it brief and tell them you’ll explain later (and have an excuse ready when you do). But if all of this sounds exhausting, then just tell the truth. Unless you committed weeks in advance or made it absolutely clear that you would not cancel, don’t feel obligated to go through with plans, particularly when you aren’t feeling up to it. You have the right to use your time as you wish.
