Cutting back or eliminating caffeine from your life is easier said than done. In fact, it can be one of the hardest things to ever do in life.  So here are some tips for you to consider before kicking caffeine out of your life.  First, don't go cold turkey. Your body isn't going to enjoy the drastic shift. Side effects are different for everyone, but generally include headaches, problems concentrating, and fatigue. Instead, reduce caffeine consumption each week. Give yourself a goal to reduce consumption by roughly 25% each week. If you typically have 14 coffee, tea or sodas a week, try drinking 10 instead. For coffee or tea, consider making your own blend using both caffeinated and decaf. Your brew would contain 75% caffeinated product the first week. The following week, reduce that to 50% and work your way down to all decaf. Eat more protein which will provide you an energy boost and replace the energy gained from caffeine. Not to mention studies have shown a high-carbohydrate diets are linked with poorer sleep quality, which in turn, requires more caffeine for you to function. Then create a new afternoon ritual, especially if you depend on a cup of coffee, tea or soda as an afternoon pick-me-up. Replace that beverage with a 10-minute walk to get some sunshine, exercise, and energy. People who walked up stairs for 10 minutes received just as much energy as they did from 50 milligrams of caffeine, about one shot of espresso, according to a 2017 paper published in Physiology & Behavior. And with all habits to kick, don't beat yourself up if you fail.  Remember your caffeine habit didn't start overnight, so quitting it will take some time and some trial and error.  If you fail, just pick up and start again.  Eventually you will reach your goal.
