We can certainly understand how much a hurricane can devastate your life and ask thankful as we are the Florence didn't make its way to Florida. We also know that help is greatly appreciated and here is how you can quickly assist our neighbors in the Carolinas. The American Red Cross has an easy way for you to donate though your phone. Text REDCROSS to 90999 and $10 will immediately be given to the American Red Cross Disaster Relief.  You'll notice the charge on your wireless bill or it will automatically be debited from your prepaid balance. Message bad data rates may apply. If you'd rather donate your money to a local organization that's more familiar with the affected area and the needs of its population, the North Carolina Community Foundation (NCCF) is a great choice. Not only does 100% of your donation go to disaster relief, but their insider knowledge of the state means that your money will likely be utilized in the most efficient way. Donations of any size can be made online using your credit/debit card or PayPal. Similar web sites are in place for South Carolina and Georgia. Prior to Florence, blood collection agencies have had a hard time getting people to donate.  While your blood may not directly be used in the disaster area, a donation will ease the strain of blood supplies in the Carolinas. Finally you can help the thousands of pets and livestock left behind by evacuations, the American Humane Society has set up a staging area for funds to help shelters in the affected areas.  You can make a cash donation of any amount at their web site. Make sure you do some research before you make a donation to insure your generous donation is going to relief efforts.
