The dawn of a new year means some changes to our grocery store shelves. New food trends mean new products and highlighted categories that reflect our ever-changing palates. 2019 might be known as the year of cauliflower. Beyond cauliflower rice and cauliflower pizza, you can find a whole new crop of cauliflower-based foods from cauliflower pretzels to cauliflower tortillas. Cauliflower blended foods will be big this year too. Alternative butters are big too. Those wanting a plant-based spread for their toast will be happy in new products with new tastes. Spreads made from macadamia nuts, coconut oil and cashews will offer much-needed variety. Diary-free ice creams were big in 2018, which means the "big boys" will be rolling out their varieties of dairy-free and lactose-free ice creams. Prebiotic and probiotic will find their ways into all sorts of foods this year. Japanese-influences flavors are growing in popularity too. Finally, oats are rolling their way into aisles outside breakfast! As we mentioned earlier this week, oat milk is big and being naturally sweet with higher protein counts than almond, soy and rice milk, oat milk will be plentiful in 2019.
