Are Flaxseeds Really A Gut-Shrinking Superfood?

Flaxseed has been grabbing a few headlines lately as an effective way to help you lose weight. There’s some truth about the weight-loss benefits of flaxseeds. The flax, or linseed, plant has been used for decades in making clothes but is a relative newcomer of aiding in weight loss. Flaxseeds themselves are low in calories, high in fiber, and contain plant-based omega-3 fatty acids. One tablespoon of ground flaxseeds has 37 calories, two grams of fiber, and one gram of protein. However there hasn't been much research conducted since it is has only been associated as a health supplement over the last 15 years. In fact, the one human study performed was retracted by the authors because questions could not be answered as to the statistical analysis provided. However additional researchers chimed in to explain the benefits of flaxseeds and it's simple.  Flaxseeds, not flaxseed oil, can aid in weightless because of the fiber contained in the seed. Despite claims made by sellers, there is nothing inherently magical about flaxseeds except that they are a powerful source of fiber—a nutrient that most people don’t eat enough of. Fiber has been proven, through rigorous scientific research, to help you lose weight, as well as help your heart and prevent hosts of deadly diseases. So if you enjoy the subtle nutty taste, definitely add them to your diet.  If not, find other fiber sources you do enjoy elsewhere.
