Nothing can slow the start of the weekend than realizing you forgot to put a bottle of wine into the refrigerator. But instead of plopping a couple of ice cubes into your Pinot, try this Chilled Drink Calculator, which was developed by physicist Álvaro Díez and drink expert Tibor Pal. The two created an easy-to-use calculator that predicts the amount of time you need to chill a liquid, based on that liquid’s optimum temperature, your chilling method, the liquid’s current environment, and the volume you wish to chill. For example, if you wanted to chill a bottle of white wine that is at room temperature, you can place it in the freezer for 33 minutes for its optimal drinking temperature. For a 12 ounce can of soda, you can give it an ice bath for 4 minutes and be able to enjoy it at a very cold 36°F. The free calculator offers tips on the optimal temperature to serve beverages, such as white and rosé wines is best around 49-55°F, lager beer at 42°F to 48°F while an ale should be served at a tad warmer 4-52°F. Carbonated beverages are best enjoyed at around 40°F and studies have shown that water reaches its optimal hydration stage at 61°F. CLICK HERE for the Chilled Drink Calculator.
