If you are planning on booking a cruise, you may want to head to the Royal Caribbean website. U.S. News & World Report released its 2020 list of the best cruise lines, last week, naming Royal Caribbean International as the best cruise line for your money. The Miami-based cruise line swapped places with its sister line, Celebrity Cruises, which is now ranked second. Norwegian Cruise Line took the No. 3 slot.  U.S. News looked at 17 cruise lines and 176 ships, evaluating them on cruise ship quality, reputation among travelers, results from health assessments conducted by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, price class, itinerary offerings and more. Factors like an “impressive list of amenities (including zip lines and ice skating rinks), abundance of dining options and variety of itineraries at an affordable price point” propelled Royal Caribbean into the top spot. However if money is not a concern, Viking Ocean Cruises were named number one in the luxury category and Disney Cruise Line ranks tops for families. Regardless of which cruise company you choose, there are some strategies you can use to save money. Book early in the year. The best time to book a cruise is January, February or March. The majority of lines introduce some kind of incentive for you to book in the upcoming year, such as discounted fares, free room upgrades, add-ons such as complimentary beverage packages or onboard credit to be used for onshore excursions, spa treatments and more. Also look for an "upgraded" ship. Cruise lines introduce brand-new ships almost every year, which generally command a premium. But the cruise lines are also investing an incredible amount of money into upgrading their full fleet, meaning some of the older ships are getting complete makeovers, by receiving some of the lines’ latest and greatest features” without the new ship premium.
