There is a lot of eating and drinking this time of the year. It's no surprise the average person gains 7 to 10 pounds between Thanksgiving and the New Year and a lot of that is from consuming adult beverages.  So as you make you plans to attend friends and the office Christmas party, some smart decisions can save you unnecessary calories while still enjoying the fun! For instance, although a Pina Colada is a tasty drink, it contains 546 calories. So swap out for another tropical with nearly identical ingredients.  A Mojito s made from a combination of rum, sugar, lime juice, soda water and mint, and at 165 calories per serve, it’s a great alternative. The Long Island Iced Tea is a classic cocktail, one likely to feature at many swish parties and functions. It also contains roughly 285 calories per serving.  By comparison a run and diet Coke (or Pepsi) contains only 96 calories per serving. When it comes to on-trend cocktails, the espresso martini always makes a stunning statement. At 285 calories, an espresso martini may not be ideal if a blowout in on the cards. Instead, switch this for a tasteful shot of Patron XO Cafe. This coffee infused-tequila liqueur packs a fairly hefty punch (it's 70 per cent proof) but at just 107 calories, it's a winner for those watching their weight. Just remember to have the Uber or Lyft app already downloaded so that when it's time to head home, you let someone sober do the driving!
