In 1980, Jane Fonda, Lily Tomlin and Dolly Parton starred in a movie around three female secretaries who plotted to get even with their sexist, egotistical, lying, hypocritical bigot boss, played by Dabney Coleman. One of the highest-grossing movies to date addressed workplace issues of sexism and harassment and was so popular that a TV series spinoff ran for five seasons in the 80s and was the inspiration for a Broadway musical in 2009.  Now 40 years later a sequel is in the works that will include Jane Fonda, Lily Tomlin and Dolly Parton. Early reports say the plot will follow three new young women dealing with workplace harassment and misogyny by their male bosses, who turn to the original “9 to 5” trio for help. The original script writers are back too! The 9 to 5 remake is just one of the many female-fronted workplace dramas making a comeback. CBS is re-booting the 80s/90s sitcom, Murphy Brown with Candice Bergen returning to her role as she tackles the world of fake news and social media.  A Broadway reboot of the 1988 movie “Working Girl” that starred Melanie Griffith is also in the works, with music written by Cyndi Lauper.
